Insulation material numbering rules

Common insulation materials

Insulating materials can be divided into organic materials and inorganic materials based on chemical composition. Organic insulating materials are the most widely used; inorganic insulating materials such as mica, glass, asbestos, etc., are generally used together with organic insulating materials to overcome their weaknesses in mechanical properties.

Examples of material numbering rules

In order to facilitate management and selection, various insulating materials are numbered with unified code, such as 1032, 2432, 3280, etc. The meaning of the four digits is as follows:

The first digit indicates the classification of insulating materials. 1—Insulating paint, resin and glue; 2—Insulating impregnated fiber; 3—Insulating Rigid laminates; 4—Insulating pressed plastics; 5—Insulating mica products.

The second digit indicates different varieties of similar materials. As in the first type of materials, 0 and 1 represent immersion paint; 2 represents cover paint. As another example, in the second type of materials, 0, 1, 2 represent cotton fiber varnished cloth; 4, 5 represent glass fiber varnished cloth; 6 represents semiconductor varnished cloth and adhesive tape; 7 represents paint tube; 8 represents film; 9 represents film product.

The third digit indicates the temperature classification of the material. Such as 1-A class; 2-E class; 3-B class; 4-F class; 5-H class; 6-C class.

The last digit represents the serial number of the material which indicates the difference in the formulation, composition and performance of similar insulating materials. For example, 1032 and 1031 belong to Class B insulation impregnating paint, but 1032 is melamine alkyd paint, and 1031 is butyl novolac paint.

There are many commonly used insulating materials, which also show their unique insulating properties due to different applications.
